Here it is P&B’ers, the much awaited, much anticipated, Part 2 of MellowYellow’s Spring Cleaning series… New tracks from some “indie” rappers, some legendary DJ’s and some Mashup geniuses… Spring is here people, celebrate it with some P&B goodness!
Break (AOTL) – Childish Gambino
Childish Gambino has been blowing up all over the web, and for good reason. He’s a witty rapper with a unique voice and he has a knack for finding interesting beats to rap over. Here, he does a remix of Kanye’s All of the Lights and he kills it per usual. I plan on attending a concert of his next week and will give you a full rundown of his set and performance.
We Don’t Eat (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix) – James Vincent McMorrow
I had to get a little dub into this post, so here comes a string of dubstep and electro songs.
Blessed Bass (Avicii + Big Boi + Nicki Minaj) – Mochi Beats
This is a great mashup of Avicii, Big Boi and Nicki Minaj. As soon as the song starts, it makes you want to start jumping up and down in the rave tent at Coachella. Glow sticks and all.
Great electro / dubstep song from Zeds Dead. It has nice buildup and a good drop with solid vocals that help carry the song through.
The Jackson Pit – Xaphoon Jones
This is a great idea, combining the classic beat of the Jackson 5 with the distinct vocals of Passion Pit. Xaphoon Jones, the producing side of Chiddy Bang, pulls this maneuver off flawlessly and delivers a perfect springtime song for us.
I’ve never heard of this artist before, but I will sure be on the lookout for their future stuff. This has a unique sound and combines interesting vocals with a chopped up electro backdrop.
K. Flay first appeared on my radio last year with Zion I’s “Coasting”. She was the featured artist on that song and it appears as if she’s trying to do her own thing. Here she samples “Chrystalized” by the XX and puts forth a solid effort of her own. I could get used to her sound.
XV is an intriguing rapper and this song does nothing but add to his mystique.
Stepped on the Scene – New Kingdom
This song is filled with so much raw energy that it seeps through the stereo. It’s no surprise given the energy that their front man performs with. He’s got the energy and stage presence of James Brown combined with the look of one of the Marley Brothers. This band is incredible live and I strongly encourage you to check them out if they are in your area.
Fantasy – Breakbot (ft. Ruckzoid)
This is very dancey electro style music. It puts me in a good mood and hopefully it does the same for you.
Same artist as above, and it achieves the same effect.
Bonus Tracks:
This is an old-school reggae joint for you to jam to in the warm glow of the sun.
Enjoy!
